The large round arched door is evidence of Rhaeto-Romanic influences and was the only entrance for people, livestock and carts. The barn was annexed on the sunnier, south side of the farmhouse – if the animals are well-cared for, there is more for the people to eat.
In the 1950s, the farmhouse was rebuilt as a guesthouse by great grandparents Alois and Anna Wachter and was one of the first guesthouses in Fiss. They even offered guests full-board! It is also worth noting that Alois Wachter was the first ski school director in Fiss and the ski school office was located in our house. Every day, ski instructors and guests bustled about in the large hallway booking their ski lessons.
Grandparents Ludwig and Resi Wachter continued to run the business until May 2009. They expanded the double rooms into spacious superior rooms, each with their own shower/WC. The renovation work was carried out carefully so as to preserve the charm of the old farmhouse.
In 1978, Ludwig and Resi added an annex to the guesthouse and also renovated the stable and barn. The three spacious apartments they created enabled them to offer holidays on the farm especially suited to families.
A small family sauna (one of the first in the whole of Fiss) rounded off the facilities in the new building.
In 2010, we – Ulrike and Thomas – took over the farm. We have since renovated the annex – creating three beautiful and comfortable farm apartments with unique features, such as a typical Tyrolean “Herrgottswinkel” holy corner in apartment III, a Tyrolean tiled stove in apartment II, or the view directly into the barn from the kitchen in apartment I – each apartment has its own special Tyrolean flair.
In summer 2013, it was time to start renovating the old farmhouse. The tin roof was removed, rotten beams and boards were repaired, and the new roof was professionally insulated and sealed.
We planned the next major conversion in 2016. We transformed two apartments and four double rooms into three new spacious country house-style apartments. Old boxes, chests, chairs and tables from our grandparents’ collection of antiquities were salvaged and integrated into the new apartments.
